About

Ellie Bird is a multidisciplinary artist, writer, curator and arts educator based in London. Bird is interested in the practice of autobiographical fictioning, storytelling and archiving through film, textiles, writing and performance.

She recently graduated with a BA in Fine Art and History of Art from Goldsmiths University and is currently making work and exhibiting in shows over London.  She is specifically fascinated in the history of needlecraft, and her research specialises in revealing sewing as a powerful mental and physical tool of voice and protest.

Her works explores the themes of familial histories, fairytales, queer theory and the diaristic themes of love, loss and sexuality. Bird has a passion for social engagement and is a coproducer of Silkworm Collective, a non-for-profit group of women artists who run accessible and community based textile workshops across London. She currently works as a freelance facilitator for a range of public institutions such as the Young V&A, The National Maritime Museum, Dulwich Picture Gallery, Goldsmiths Centre for Contemporary Art, The Design Museum and Phoenix Gallery, Brighton.
